On the weekend of 10.12 - 12.12.2021, 16 of the senior Junior Rangers from Sedie, Tswaragano and Moeti Junior Schools were at Makgadikgadi National Park on the Boteti River for a Junior Ranger Camp on the theme of Human-Wildlife Conflict in cooperation with Elephants for Africa.
The camp is part of the project "Biodiversity and Species Conservation", which runs until June 2022 and is financially supported by the Schmitz Foundations.
The Junior Rangers went on game drives in the bush together with trainers from EfA, set up cameras to observe animals and learned how to evaluate the recordings. A highlight was the visit to farmers living near Kumaga village. Here the young rangers learned that the farmers burn elephant dung with chilli, for example, or that they take turns guarding their fields at night, thus driving away the animals to protect their fields and crops from the big gentle giants without shooting them.
The Junior Rangers were thrilled and very impressed by the educational work that the trainers from Elephants for Africa are doing!
We would like to thank EfA for making this camp possible!
