Around the world, rangers play a very important role in conservation, as they perform a variety of tasks to preserve nature, such as monitoring protected areas, observing wildlife, preventing poaching, involving local communities in conservation, helping communities resolve human-wildlife conflicts and supporting tourism. The latter are particularly important issues in Botswana.
World Ranger Day is celebrated every year on 31 July to thank rangers worldwide and to recognise the valuable work they do to protect nature. The day also commemorates rangers who have been killed or injured in the course of their work - which can sometimes be dangerous.
This year, Junior Rangers Botswana joined forces with StartUp4Kids Botswana and African Bush Camps Foundation on 31/07/2022 to share ideas on conservation. This resulted in lively discussions and great actions that take their shared vision of a liveable, healthy and clean world a step forward.
On the day, all participants received a new, descriptive work material "Happy Green World Botswana", which contains many tips and valuable information on the topic of waste avoidance, recycling, environmental protection and saving resources.
Together with the StartUp4Kids foundation, the Knyphausen Foundation has been organising weekly educational sessions at local schools for the past 1.5 years, where FEYS trainers teach the topics from the Junior Ranger and Aflatoun programmes and the teachers of the partner schools adopt them into their curriculum.
On 31 July, the new Junior Ranger initiative "Happy Green World Botswana" has now started with many enthusiastic children.
Our thanks go to StartUp4Kids and African Bush Camps Foundation for providing the "Happy Green World Botswana" material!
